The ink block picture has the motif of a cherry blossom, viewed up close, and uses ink on paper as its media. Skills I learned were stippling and crosshatching. The main art elements I used were value, shape, and texture. I used value to show the contrasts in the different parts of the flower as it hits the light. Because the crevices and wrinkles of the flower are darker it shows the surface texture of the petals. Shape was used to define the outlines of the petals and the filaments, and the dark background behind. The art elements and the skills I used convey how natural light affects the appearance of the things around us and adds complexity. Also there is a symbolic juxtaposition between the dark side and light side of this object which is commonly associated with innocence.
